Philip Keene, director of communications for Walmart, said that the move is based on a number of factors, including financial performance and strategic alignment with long-term plans.
The store is located at 275 Main St.
“The decision to close our White Plains store is not an easy one," Keene said. "We opened the store in 2006 and we are as proud today as we’ve ever been with how the store leadership and associates have served and contributed to the local community over the years.
Keene said the company care "deeply about our associates," impacted by the closure and associates will be paid through Oct. 26.
The company is hoping to transfer the majority of associates to another location. Local human resources leadership will be working with employees on resume training and interview skills if requested.
Those who aren't transferred will be eligible for severance, he added.
The pharmacy will close Aug. 7, and prescriptions will be transferred to other locations, Keene said.
"We are planning to transfer records to the nearby Sam’s Club (#6674 Elmsford). Our pharmacy staff will work with customers to transfer prescriptions to another convenient location," Keene said.
The store will host clearance sales and hopes to have most of the inventory either moved or sold by closing time. Remaining perishable items may be donated to local hunger relief organizations.
